Expert on Bleeding Disorder Answers Questions 9/27
55Individuals in Connecticut have a chance to talk about ITP, a serious bleeding disorder, with one of the world's experts on the subject on September 27.
Dr. Paul Imbach, Professorin Pediatrics and Extraordinarius of Pediatric Incology/Hematology Medical Faculty at the University of Basel and Chairman of the Intercontinental Childhood ITP Study Group ICIS, will be appearing at the 4th Annual Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon, an event which raises funds for the non-profit ITP Foundation. The doctor will be available to answer questions about ITP from any and all who wish to speak with him.
Dr. Imbach has been at the forefront of pediatric ITP study for years and has published extensively on the subject.
The 4th Annual Darien Sport Shop ITPMAN Triathlon starts at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27,2008 at Weed Beach Park in Darien. It will run until about 11:00 a.m.
The Triathlon will attract about 500 endurance sports enthusiasts who will swim 0.5 miles, bicycle 15 miles and run 5 miles. The public is invited to attend to watch and cheer on these determined athletes and to view a special Fashion Show by Darien Sport Shop.
Funds raised from the event benefit the Darien-based ITP Foundation and its efforts to fight the bleeding disorder ITP in children. ITPis a disorder of the blood that involves the immune system, causing spontaneous bruising and/or bleeding throughout the body.

About ITP and the ITP Foundation
ITP is a disorder of the blood that involves the immune system and occurs in about 4 in 100,000 children, causing spontaneous bruisingand/or bleeding throughout the body. The ITP Foundation is a non-profit organization established to raise awareness of ITP, fund ITPresearch and help families with children and adolescents who have ITP and need financial assistance to manage and treat this dangerous bleeding disorder. The Foundation takes an active role in raising awareness of ITP through outreach efforts on both national and local levels. This is done through sporting, social and educational events. The primary focus is on sponsorship of endurance athletes who raise funds for the ITP Foundation.
